হাতির পিঠ থেকে পড়ে গেলেন উপাধ্যক্ষ

৭ অক্টোবরঃ হাতির পিঠ থেকে পড়ে গেলেন নবনির্বাচিত উপাধ্যক্ষ কৃপানাথ মালা। ওই পদে নির্বাচিত হওয়ার পর শনিবারই তিনি প্রথম গেলেন নিজের বিধানসভা কেন্দ্র রাতাবাড়িতে। সমর্থকরা তাঁর জন্য জমকালো সংবর্ধনার আয়োজন করেন। জায়গায় জায়গায় কনভয় থামিয়ে তাঁকে উত্তরীয় পরানো হয়। অনেকে পরান গামোছা।

আনিপুরে চমক হিসেবে এনে রাখা হয়েছিল হাতি। কৃপানাথবাবুকে তার পিঠে তুলে সমর্থকদের সে কী উল্লাস! চারদিকে বাজি পুড়তে থাকে। ফাটে বিভিন্ন আওয়াজের পটকা। সঙ্গে হরেক রকমের বাজনা। ভয় পেয়ে যায় ঐরাবত। দ্রুত ছুটতে থাকলে পিছলে পড়ে যান উপাধ্যক্ষ। সমর্থকরা দৌড়ে গিয়ে তাঁকে ধরার আগেই অবশ্য তিনি উঠে দাঁড়ান। বলেন, কোথাও চোট লাগেনি। পরে অবশ্য তিনি আর হাতির পিঠে চড়েননি। কোথাও সমর্থকদের সঙ্গে হাঁটলেন। কোথাও গাড়ি থেকেই হাত নাড়েন। রবিবারও বললেন, কোনও শারীরিক সমস্যা নেই। তিনি পুরো সুস্থ আছেন। এ দিনই তিনি গুয়াহাটি ফিরে গিয়েছেন।

October 7: The newly elected Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Kripanath Mallah fell down from the back of an elephant. After being elected to this post, it is for the first time that he went to his constituency at Ratabari. His supporters arranged a gala reception for him. On the way, people felicitated him at various points stopping his convoy.

At Anipur, an elephant was arranged by the people over there to give a surprise welcome to their leader. Mr. Mallah was made to seat on the top of the elephant. To celebrate the moment, crackers were burnt by his supporters. The beating of drums by the band party and sound of music from loudspeakers rented the whole atmosphere. All these noise were enough for the elephant to get scared and so it started to run. As a result, the Deputy Speaker fell down from the elephant. Immediately, his supporters rushed for help but by the time he got up from the ground. Luckily, he escaped unhurt. He,however, refused to mount the elephant any further. He returned back to Guwahati on the same day.
