Jagannath Singh College celebrated birthday of Upendra Nath Brahma as Chatra Divas

ওয়ে টু বরাক, ১ এপ্রিল : রাজ্যের অন্যান্য স্থানের সঙ্গে সঙ্গতি রেখে উধারবন্দ জগন্নাথ সিং কলেজে বডোফা উপেন্দ্র নাথ ব্রহ্মের জন্মদিন ছাত্র দিবস হিসেবে উদযাপিত হয়। শুক্রবার সকাল দশটায় কলেজ প্রাঙ্গনে উপেন্দ্র নাথ ব্রহ্মের প্রতিকৃতিতে মাল্যদান ও পুষ্পার্ঘ নিবেদনের মাধ্যমে অনুষ্ঠানের সূচনা হয়। মাল্যদান ও পুষ্পার্ঘ্য নিবেদন করেন কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ, শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকা, অশিক্ষক কর্মচারী ও ছাত্রছাত্রীরা।

অনুষ্ঠানের দ্বিতীয় পর্বে দুপুর একটায় কলেজে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় শৈক্ষিক বিষয়ের উপর এক আলোচনা সভা। কলেজের অধ্যক্ষ ড. এস. সমরেন্দ্র সিংহের পৌরোহিত্যে আয়োজিত এই আলোচনা সভায় স্বাগত বক্তব্য রাখেন কলেজের ইংরেজি বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ডঃ কৌশিক নাথ। অনুষ্ঠানে মুখ্য বক্তা হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন কলেজের ইতিহাস বিভাগের প্রধান ড. গঙ্গেশ ভট্টাচার্য ও একই বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ড. শ্যাম মামুদ বড়ভুইয়া। প্রাসঙ্গিক বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে তাঁরা উপেন্দ্র নাথ ব্রহ্মের কর্মজীবনের নানা দিকের ওপর আলোকপাত করেন এবং ছাত্র ও বড়ো সমাজে তার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদানের কথা তুলে ধরেন। আসামে শিক্ষার প্রসার ও সমাজ জীবন এবং ছাত্র সমাজে তার গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকার কথা ব্যক্ত করেন।

বক্তব্য রাখতে গিয়ে ড. গঙ্গেশ ভট্টাচার্য বলেন, শিলচরে আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠায় অন্যতম কৃতিত্বের দাবিদার হলেন বডোফা উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্ম। আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠার জন্য যখন আন্দোলন শুরু হয়েছিল তখন বড়োভূমিতে পৃথক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় স্থাপনের দাবি ওঠে। কিন্তু উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্মের নেতৃত্বে চলা আন্দোলনকারীরা তাদের দাবি থেকে সরে এসে শিলচরে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠার দাবির প্রতি সমর্থন জানান। ফলে শিলচরে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রতিষ্ঠায় উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্ম অন্যতম কৃতিত্বের দাবিদার। উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্মের প্রতি মর্যাদা জানিয়ে অসাম সরকার তাঁর জন্মদিন ছাত্র দিবস উদযাপনের আহ্বান জানানোয় রাজ্য সরকারের প্রতি ধন্যবাদ ও কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন তিনি।

ড.শ্যাম মামুদ বড়ভুইয়া বলেন, উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্ম ছিলেন এক বলিষ্ঠ ছাত্র নেতা, লেখক ও দক্ষ শিক্ষক। বলেন, ১৯৮৬ থেকে ১৯৯০ সাল পর্যন্ত বড়োভূমিতে আন্দোলন চরমে উঠেছিল। সে সময় বড় ছাত্র সংস্থার সভাপতি ছিলেন উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্ম। পৃথক বড়ো রাজ্য গঠনের দাবিতে শুরু হয়েছিল অহিংস আন্দোলন। সেই আন্দোলনের নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন তিনি। তার নেতৃত্বে চলা আন্দোলনের উপর ভিত্তি করেই তাঁর মৃত্যুর পরবর্তী সময়ে বড়ো স্বায়ত্বশাসিত পরিষদ গঠন হয়। এ দিনের আলোচনা সভায় ছাত্রছাত্রীদের মধ্যে উপেন্দ্রনাথ ব্রহ্মের অবদান ও ছাত্র দিবস পালনে পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করায় রাজ্য সরকারের উদ্যোগের প্রশংসা করে বক্তব্য রাখেন রৌজিয়া সুলতানা লস্কর, সাবানা আজমিন বড়লস্কর, জামিয়া বেগম বড়ভূইয়া, অর্পিতা দাস সহ অন্যান্যরা। অনুষ্ঠানে কলেজের শিক্ষক-শিক্ষিকা, কার্যালয়ের কর্মীরা সহ ছাত্রছাত্রীরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

Way2barak, April 1 : The birthday of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was celebrated as “Chatra Divas” in a befitting manner on Friday at Jagannath Singh College Udharbond, Cachar. In the first session of the programme, floral tribute was paid to the portrait of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma by the Principal of the College, teaching, non teaching staff and students of the college. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Somarendro Singha, Principal of the college.
In the second session of the programme a seminar was held in the college on ” Life, Philosophy of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and Academic Development of the Students”.

The seminar was moderated by Dr. S. Somarendro Singha, Principal of the college. Dr. Gongesh Bhattacharjee, Head, Department of History of the college and Dr. Shyam Mamud Barbhuiya Assistant Professor of the same Department graced the occasion as the resource person. The different aspects of life of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and his contribution for the Bodo community in particular and students community of Assam in general was highlighted by both the resource persons. They further spoke about the contribution of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma for the student community and academic development of Assam. They also urged the students to follow the ideals of this great student leader according to his Motto. ” Live and let Live” Dr. Gongesh Bhattacharjee said, the credit for the establishment of Assam University, Silchar goes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma also. In Barak Valley, when a student movement was started in the demand of a Central University, a similar movement was going on in Bodoland area for the same demand. But under the able leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, the ABSU stands with the student movement of Barak Valley by leaving aside their own demand. Dr. Gongesh Bhattacharjee thanked the Assam Government for declaring the birth day of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma as “Students’ Day”.

Dr. Shyam Mamud Barbhuiya said Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma was not only a great student leader but also a writer and meritorious teacher. Bodofa Brahma was the president of ABSU from 1986 to 1990, when the Bodo movement of Assam reached its highest peak. This moment was given a non-violent and democratic shape by the able leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. Subsequently, as a result, after his death, Bodoland Autonomous Council was emerged in Assam. In the beginning of the programme, Dr. Koushik Nath, Assistant professor of English of the college delivered key note address. Among the students of the College Rouzia Sultana Laskar, Arpita Das, Jamia Begam Barbhuiya, Sabana Azmin Bar laskar delivered speech in the programme by highlighting the contribution of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and the initiative of the Assam Government for declaring his birth day as “Students Day”.
