2792 +ve cases detected in Assam on Monday, state tally rises to 79,667
Active cases 24,252 in Assam
August 17: On Monday, 2792 active cases were registered in Assam. With this, the state tally of novel coronavirus cases has gone upto 79,667, out of which, 24,252 are active cases. Further, eight more positive patients have succumbed to COVID-19 infections in Assam on Monday, taking the state’s death toll to 197.
Out of the eight deceased, 2 are from Cachar district. They are Jibon Roy (45) and Mozibur Islam Hazari (57). The six other deceased were identified as Priyabrata Acharjee (64) from Tinsukia; Upen Deka (60) from Darrang; Banwari Lal Todi (69) from Dibrugarh; Matiur Rahman (65) from Golaghat; Junah Chetry (24) from Udalguri and Suren Mahanta (78),Kamrup Rural. This was confirmed in a tweet by State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a tweet, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Alert ~ 2792 #COVID cases detected today out of 49510 tests done in last 24 hours Positivity Rate- 5.63% Kamrup (M)- 458, Cachar- 227, Dibrugarh- 225, Kamrup (R)- 195.” It needs mention here that though the minister in his tweet mentioned that 227 positive cases were detected in Cachar on Monday, but as per the district health official, 236 persons tested positive in Cachar during the day.
