‘আর লড়ব না’ বলেই শক্ত দাবিদার হয়ে উঠছেন কবীন্দ্র
Kabindra emerges as tough claimant amidst his claim of “I don’t want to contest anymore”

শিলচর আসনে ২০১৯-র লোকসভা ভোটে কংগ্রেস প্রার্থী কে হবেন, এ আজ কোনও প্রশ্ন নয়। কিন্তু সুস্মিতা দেবের বিরুদ্ধে বিজেপি টিকিটে কে লড়বেন, এটাই হলো কঠিন জিজ্ঞাসা। গতবারের দাবিদার ডা. রাজদীপ রায় তো রয়েছেনই। লোকসভা নির্বাচনে দাঁড়ানোর বাসনায় বিধানসভার ডেপুটি স্পিকার পদে ইস্তফা দিয়েছেন শিলচরের বিধায়ক দিলীপকুমার পাল। গুরুচরণ কলেজের অবসরপ্রাপ্ত অধ্যক্ষ পার্থসারথি চন্দ, বিজেপি কিষান মোর্চার নেতা হেমাঙ্গশেখর দাসও টিকিটের দাবি জানাবেন বলে প্রকাশ্যে বলে বেড়াচ্ছেন। দাবিদারদের তালিকায় আছেন কণাদ পুরকাসয়স্থও। দিল্লিতে বসবাসরত এই অঞ্চলের দুয়েকজনের নামও মাঝেমধ্যে বাতাসে ভেসে বেড়ায়।

শেষপর্যন্ত কার ভাগ্যে শিঁকে ছিঁড়তে পারে?  প্রাক্তন কেন্দ্রীয় মন্ত্রী তথা উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলে বিজেপির মূল স্থপতি কবীন্দ্র পুরকায়স্থ বলেন, দল চাইছে, এই আসনটি কংগ্রেসের কাছ থেকে ছিনিয়ে নিতে। সে জন্য সংগঠনকে সাজিয়ে তোলা হচ্ছে। কিন্তু কাকে সামনে রেখে লড়াই করা, তা ঠিক সময়ে দলই চূড়ান্ত করবে।

তবে তিনি উল্লেখ করেন, ‘দলের শীর্ষ নেতৃত্ব থেকে তৃণমূল স্তরের কর্মী সকলের চাপ রয়েছে আমার উপর। কিন্তু আমি গত বারই জানিয়ে দিয়েছিলাম, আর লড়ব না। ৮৭ বছর বয়স, আর কত!’

তাহলে …? জোর গলাতেই শোনান, ‘আই অ্যাম দ্য সোলজার অব দ্য পার্টি (আমি দলের সৈনিক)। মনেপ্রাণে বলি, আর চাই না।’

দলাদলি নিয়ে আশঙ্কায় থাকলেও তিনি আশাবাদী, সাধারণ মানুষ বিজেপি-কে জেতানোর জন্য মুখিয়ে রয়েছেন। মোদি ক্যারিশমাই এর প্রধান কারণ বলে মনে করছেন তিনি। সঙ্গে রয়েছে, কেন্দ্র-রাজ্যে বিজেপি সরকারের কাজকর্ম। সরকারের সাফল্যের কথা সর্বস্তরের জনগণের কাছে পৌঁছে দিতে সাংগঠনিক স্তরে অত্যন্ত গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হচ্ছে বলে কবীন্দ্রবাবু জানিয়েছেন। তাঁর কথায়, টিকিট যিনিই পান, প্রতিটি ভোটারের কাছে বারবার দলের কথা পৌঁছনোর ব্যবস্থা করা হয়েছে। ভোটার তালিকা ধরে ধরে পৃষ্ঠাপ্রমুখ মনোনীত করা হয়েছে। প্রত্যেক ভোটারের সঙ্গে ১৫ দিনে একবার ওই পৃষ্ঠাপ্রমুখ দেখা করবেন।

শাসকশক্তি বলে এ বারের দলাদলি মারাত্মক চেহারা নেবে, এমনটাও মনে করেন না তিনি। বলেন, ‘আগেও টিকিটের লড়াই ছিল। এ বারও হবে, তাতে আর নতুন কী! তবে এ টুকু বারবার বলতে চাই, আমি এ বার টিকিটের দাবিদার নই।’

It’s not any matter of speculation as regards who will be the Congress candidate in 2018 from the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency. But the million dollar question is who will get the ticket from BJP against Sushmita Dev. Rajdip Roy, the claimant of 2014 elections is there in the fray. Dilip Kumar Pal, the MLA of Silchar, has resigned as the Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly in the hope of contesting Lok Sabha elections. In the meantime, Partha Sarathi Chanda, retired Principal of G.C. College and Hemanga Shekhar Das, leader of BJP Kishan Morcha are publicly proclaiming their claim for BJP candidature to the 2019 polls. Another claimant to the coveted seat is Kanad Purkayastha. Moreover, the names of a few persons of this region who are presently residing at Delhi can also be heard sometimes in certain parlors.

So who will have the final smile? Former Union Minister and the main founder of BJP in the North East, Kabindra Purkayastha expressed the opinion that the party is keen to snatch away the prestigious Silchar seat from the hands of the Congress. Keeping this aspect in mind, the party is preparing itself. But who would be the face of the party for the 2019 polls, would be finalized at the proper time.

But he mentioned that “I am under pressure from the top leadership of the party to the grass root level workers to be the face of the party in 2019 so that lotus may bloom in the Silchar constituency. However, I have already made it clear last time that I will not contest anymore. I am now 86, I think it’s enough for me.”

Then…? He spoke assertively, “I am the soldier of the party. I say it from my heart, I don’t want to contest anymore.”

Though apprehensive of factionalism, yet he is optimistic that the common man is looking forward to see the BJP emerge victorious in 2019. He feels that Modi charisma is the key factor behind such belief. Along with this, the positive works of both the central and state governments will also add to the strength of the party. Mr. Purkaystha also said that at the organizational level, importance is given to spread the achievements of the government among people from every walk of life. In his words, whoever gets the ticket, it will be the prime aim to convey the message of the party to each and every voter. A page in-charge for every page of the voter list has been selected. The page in-charge has been asked to meet every voter of his page once in every 15 days.

He said that he does not believe that factionalism within the party will raise its ugly face. However, he did not fail to mention that, “The fight for ticket is nothing new. This fight was there in the past and the fight may again be witnessed in 2019. But one thing which I intent to say time and again is that I am not a ticker-seeker this time.”
