Surgery Deptt of Silchar Medical College declared containment zone

May 23: The surgery department of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) was declared as a containment zone after one patient admitted therein for other ailments tested COVID-19 positive on Friday. 45-years old Khalilur Rehman, a resident of Anglabazar in Karimganj district was admitted at SMCH on Thursday evening  as he was suffering from severe stomach pain. The patient was, however, asymptomatic, but even though as a precautionary measure, his swab test was done. The swab result was positive. He was instantly shifted to COVID-19 ward of SMCH.

13 more patients were there in the surgery ward of SMCH, who were also immediately shifted to another block. Eminent surgeon, Dr. Siddhartha Bhattacharjee was treating Khalilur Rehman, who later on tested COVID-19 positive. As a result, Dr. Bhattacharjee along with some other PG doctors, internees and nurses of the surgery department has now been in self-Isolation.
