‘Objectionable Post’, FIR lodged against Assam Univ teacher Anindya Sen
August 8: In connection with a Facebook Post, an FIR was lodged against Anindya Sen, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Assam University, Silchar. Rohit Chanda, a student member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) lodged the FIR against Anindya Sen at Silchar Sadar Police Station on Saturday for allegedly making “derogatory remarks against Shri Ramchandra and hurting religious sentiments.”
As per sources, a case has been registered against the said University teacher on the basis of the FIR. The case No. 2424/2020 was registered under section 294/295(A)/501 IPC and relevant section 67 of Information Technology Act.
The complainant Rohit Chanda in the said FIR alleged that Anindya Sen, Assistant Professor of Assam University has made “derogatory remarks against Prabhu Ramchandra in social media.” It was further alleged that, “He makes such continuous abusive posts defaming Hindu dharma.” Allegation was also made in the FIR against the teacher for ‘abusing constitutional posts like the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of the country.’
So, what exactly did Anindya Sen wrote? “She: And all this drama for a man who threw out his wife.
Me: Ya. Abandoned his wife. Right.
She: In fear of what ‘people’ would say.
Me: Oh! You mean Sriramchandra! I was thinking of you know who!🙄”
Mr. Sen, a resident of Kolkata found himself in a quagmire learning about the FIR lodged against him. An alumni of Calcutta University, who is at present a faculty in Assam University said, “There are many prevalent versions of the Ramayana. In some of them, it is written that Shri Ramchandra left Sita Devi at the ashram of Valmiki. For this, Ramchandra was also criticised by many.” He said that his Facebook post has got nothing to do with the Bhoomi Pujan at Ayodhya. However, he was quick to add that, “If my posts has hurt the religious sentiments of any person(s), then for that I express deep regrets and apologize.”
However, the complainant, Rohit Chanda categorically stated, “Proper action against the university teacher should be taken as per the law of the land.” Rohit further alleged that it is not the first time that this faculty member has spoken ill of Hindu religion. He said, “By making such type of derogatory remarks, Professor Anindya Sen who has a decent number of followers in the university and among the people in the society is trying to incite communal disturbances and provoking people for communal riots.”
It needs mention here that ABVP leader Rohit Chanda has also in the past lodged FIR against Souradeep Sengupta, a teacher of G.C. College, Silchar, who also was accused of making objectionable remarks against Hindu Gods & Goddesses in social media. Mr. Souradeep is at present out on bail.
