No proper drainage, mini flood at Sonai Road; locals appeal to DC Cachar for intervention

May 13: With a few spell of rainfall, many parts of Silchar gets water logged. Come rains and people of this town had to face immense hardships due to the artificial flood. Lack of proper drainage system is the prime reason for accumulation of rain water in the streets. This phenomenon is going on since a couple of years. On Friday, the residents of Sonai Road (Kanakpur Part-1) from near Bajaj Showroom till Relax Hotel submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

In the said memorandum, people of that locality stated that the problem of water logging takesplace due to lackof proper drainage on both sides of Sonai Road. During the rainy season, mini flood occurs in this area due to ack of drainage system, resulting in immense difficulties for the commuters. As the roads are water logged, so many a times, this results in accidents. They urged upon the Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and come up with an immediate plausible solution of this problem.

They further stated in the memorandum that in the past, they have made repeated appeals to the district administration but till now no concrete solution was made. In the month of March 2022, when they appealed to DC Cachar, their appeal was forwarded to the concerned Executive Engineer of PWD, but no action was taken by the person till now. At present, due to heavy rains, they mentioned that this portion of area at Sonai Road has become impossible to commute. As such, the locals demanded immediate intervention of the district administration.
