MLA Rajdeep Goala expelled from Congress for 6 years
Oct. 9: In a significant development, MLA Rajdeep Goala from Lakhipur was expelled from the Congress party. On Friday, in a press release issued by K.C. Venugopal General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, it was stated that, “Hon’ble Congress President has approved the proposal of expulsion of Shri Rajdeep Gowala, MLA, Assam from the party for a period of 6 years for indulging in anti-party activities.”
It needs mention here that just before lockdown, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while interacting with newsmen informed that some Congress legislators will be joining BJP. The minister then categorically took the name of MLA Rajdeep Goala. However, till now Mr Gowala himself has not spoken a word on this issue. But at the same time, he had distanced himself from all meetings of Congress since then. He even avoided to give any clarification to Ripun Bora when the later asked his opinion on this controversy. Finally, he was expelled from the party on Friday.
It needs mention here that Rajdeep’s father, Late Dinesh Prashad Goala became MLA for 7 times from Lakhipur constituency in Assam from Congress. He was also the state cabinet minister. After his death in 2014, his son Rajdeep Goala contested and won the bi-election. He won for the 2nd time from this seat in the 2016 Assembly election.
