Dance & songs in COVID Ward: Doctors, health workers spread smile at SMCH
July 26: After testing positive and being admitted in hospitals, COVID positive patients are usually gripped by tension and panic spreads among them quickly. What is most required for the positive patients is of course a positive mindset to fight the virus. Many a times, the sight of doctors and health workers going about wearing PPE Kit make some patients furthermore nervous. However, on Sunday, the COVID positive patients admitted at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) had a totally different experience, which they would cherish throughout their life.
Since Sunday afternoon, social media was full of some videos wherein doctors and health workers wearing PPE Kit could be seen dancing and singing along with the patients. It was indeed a feast for the eyes to see positive feelings in the body language of the otherwise ‘COVID-19 positive’ patients, who too were singing using karoke.

Things did not just stop there. 26 July is celebrated throughout the country as Kargil Divash. On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we remember the courage and determination of our armed forces, who steadfastly protected our nation in 1999. Their valour continues to inspire generations. The patients and the health workers sang to their heart’s content the famous patriotic number of Lata Mangeshkar -“Ae mere watan ke loge.”
Sharing his experience, one such COVID positive patient, Dr. Debashish Sharma, an Assistant Professor at GC Collge, Silchar took to his Facebook wall and wrote, “Hats off to the doctors and other health workers at Silchar Medical College. Today, Dr. Deepak Pandey, Dr. Avinash Powar, Dr. Amit Kalwar, Dr. Debanjali Das and patient-cum-doctors Dr. Hari and Dr. Surabhi and health workers Amit Das and Sirjul arranged a singing and dancing program at Covid Ward of SMC to cheer up the patients. We all sang and danced with immense positivity. Thank you dear doctors for such relentless service!”
Addressing the doctors & health workers, Dr. Debashish Sharma said, “Cheers to the real heroes.. the health workers! Thanks for your relentless service…”
“It’s really an awesome feeling to sing and dance along with the doctors and health workers. Momentarily we forgot the captive life we were leading and indulged in songs and dance. Thank you doctors and health workers for spreading sunshine in our lives,” commented another youth who too is admitted in the COVID Ward of SMCH.
