Assam University rusticates Milon Das for 2 years
মিলন দাসকে ২ বছরের জন্য বহিষ্কার করল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়

৮ ফেব্রুয়ারি: আসাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ছাত্র সংসদের প্রাক্তন সভাপতি, পরিবেশ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগের গবেষক মিলন দাসকে দুই বছরের জন্য বহিষ্কার করা হয়েছে৷ ওই সময়ে গবেষক হিসাবে কোনও কাজ করতে পারবেন না তিনি৷

এমনকী, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় চত্বরে তার প্রবেশের ওপরও নিষেধাজ্ঞা জারি হয়েছে৷ মিলনবাবুর নামে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় কর্তৃপক্ষ পুলিশেও এজাহার দিয়েছে৷

February 8: In a sudden development, Assam University has rusticated Milon Das, a research scholar in the Department of Ecology & Environmental Sciences of the varsity was rusticated for two years on Saturday. Milon Das is the former President of Assam University Students’ Union (AUSU) and is at present the President of Assam University Research Scholars Forum (AURSF).

The order issued by the Registrar in-charge on 8 February specifically stated that it was issued as per the direction of the Vice Chancellor of the University. Also as per the order, FIR was lodged against Milon Das for taking law in his hand on several occasions. He was also debarred from entering the university campus during this period of two years.

The order issued by the Registrar i/c stated the following reasons for taking this drastic measure against Milon Das:

  • Causing threat to life of government servants/officers of the University on the late evening of 9th January 2020 in Administrative Building by attacking the officers with a group of intoxicated persons.
  • Creating hindrance to office work by using force. verbal abuse, locking of administrative offices on several occasions and wrongfully confining officers and Professors of the University including Executive Council Members on 16th January 2020.
  • Breaking lock of office collapsible gate towards engineering Section by hammering on 30.08.2018.
  • Ransacking of Engineering Section and causing damage to Government/University property on 05.03.2018.
  • Insulting and humiliating the Vice-Chancellor of the University; trying to physically attack (30. 07.2018) Vice-Chancellor in his chamber and threaten him time and again (The latest being during EC meeting on 11.12.2019 and during wrongful confinement on night of 16.01.2020). Using abusive language against Vice-Chancellor and frequently banging into Vice-Chancellor’s chamber in groups without taking due permission.
  • Throwing Vice Chancellors chair from his Office Chamber on 27.07 2018.
  • Humiliating lady officer (Doctor) of the University on 08.03.2018.

The action against Milan Das is based on time to time report from security officer of the University and other officers of the University and frequent harassment to Vice-Chancellor in public glare, read the order. It was further stated that the reports are being further examined to take additional measures, if required to maintain discipline in the University.

Meanwhile, sources among the students of Assam University revealed that they are contemplating protest against this decision of the varsity on Monday.
