Ashram web series: Court issues legal notice on ‘hurting Hindu sentiments’

Dec. 17: The web series Ashram, directed by Prakash Jha, is facing increasing difficulties. A Jodhpur court has issued a notice to Prakash and series lead actor Bobby Deol regarding the case filed against the series. The Hindu organization Karni Sena had approached the court against Prakash Jha, the director of the web series, alleging that he had hurt the sentiments of the Hindu religion. The web series is alleged to have misrepresented the image of Indian saints.

In this series, Bobby Deol has played the symbolic role of such saints who are serving jail sentences due to many crimes. Taking cognizance of these charges, District and Sessions Judge Ravindra Joshi in Jodhpur ordered Bobby and Prakash Jha to appear in court on January 11 for hearing. According to the lawyer in the chargesheet filed in the Jodhpur court, the character of Bobby Deol has been shown as a self-proclaimed religious leader in the entire web series. Who is a rapist, corrupt and also a drug trafficker.

Earlier, Prakash Jha had opened his mouth about this ‘ashram’ debate. His clear remarks, “Who or what has sent a legal notice objecting, who am I to judge their demands? In the first season, ‘Ashram’ was seen by more than 400 million viewers. I think it’s up to the audience to decide. It’s best if we leave the issue to the spectators.”
