বাহাদুরপুরে খুলছে মদের দোকান! প্রতিবাদে মশাল হাতে রাস্তায় মহিলারা

২১ এপ্রিল : শনিবার এলাকার মহিলারা জেলাশাসকের কার্যালয়ে গিয়ে স্মারকপত্র পেশ করে জানিয়ে এসেছিলেন, বসতি এলাকায় মদের দোকান খুললে তাঁরা যেকোনও মূল্যে তা রুখবেন। এ ব্যাপারে জেলাশাসকের হস্তক্ষেপও চেয়েছিলেন তাঁরা। এর একদিন পর রবিবার রাস্তায় মশাল মিছিল বের করে তাঁরা জানিয়ে দিলেন, মদের দোকান কোনও অবস্থাতেই চালু হতে দেবেন না। এ দিন শহরের রংপুর পুলিশ পেট্রোল পোস্টের সামনে থেকে এই মিছিল বের হয়ে যায় বাহাদুরপুর পর্যন্ত। বাহাদুরপুর পরিবেশ সুরক্ষা সমিতি এই মিছিলের আয়োজন করলেও এলাকার বেশ কয়েকটি সংস্থা এতে যোগ দেয়। প্রায় আড়াইশ মানুষ এতে অংশ নেন। ছিলেন স্থানীয় পঞ্চায়েত প্রতিনিধিরাও।

জেলাশাসককে দেওয়া স্মারকপত্রে সমিতি অভিযোগ করে, রংপুর জিপির বাহাদুরপুরে শিলচর লিংক রোডের জনৈক সুদর্শন দেব একটি বার সহ মদের দোকান খুলছেন। এর কাজও জোরকদমে চলছে। এ নিয়ে গত ১৩ এপ্রিল একইভাবে স্মারকপত্র দিয়ে স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা এই বার খোলার বিরোধিতা করেছিলেন। কিন্তু প্রশাসন ও সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ কোনও ব্যবস্থা নেয়নি বলে তাঁরা অভিযোগ এনেছেন। এরপরই ১৫ এপ্রিল স্থানীয় বাসিন্দারা একটি সংগঠন গড়ে প্রতিবাদ শুরু করেন।

প্রতিবাদকারীরা বলেন, যে জায়গায় মদের দোকান খোলার তোড়জোড় চলছে, সেখানে বসতি রয়েছে। পাশেই স্কুল, মন্দির, মসজিদও রয়েছে। ফলে এখানে বার খোলা হলে এলাকার পরিবেশ বিষিয়ে উঠবে। এলাকার যুবক ও কিশোররা নেশার প্রতি আসক্ত হবে। ফলে কোনও অবস্থাতেই এখানে মদের দোকান খুলতে দেওয়া যায় না। এমনকি মহিলাদের নিরাপত্তা প্রশ্নের মুখে চলে আসবে বলেও তাঁরা উল্লেখ করেন।

April 21: History is replete with many such incidents when women took to the streets against opening of wine shops. The anti-arrack movement is one such instance. Arrack is low cost liquor that is generally consumed by poor people. The anti-arrack movement started as a spontaneous movement in a remote village in Dubagunta in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It was a women’s movement which saw the articulation of the issue of family violence in a public forum.

A somewhat similar movement was launched by the women of Rangpur Gaon Panchayat in Cachar district of Assam. As per reports, a wine shop cum bar was to be set up at at Bahadurpur of Rongpur. When this news reached the women of that area, they became very much concerned and decided to raise a protest movement against such attempt.

Their main concern was the future of their children who usually gets lured to evil practices like drinking at an early age. Even the male folk squanders their hard-earned money by consumption of liquor. All these factors ultimately culminated in a strong protest movement raised by the women of that locality. On Sunday late evening, a torch rally was taken out under the banners of Madurgram Meira and Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee.

Slogans were also raised during the torch rally.They even submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar wherein they alleged that one Sudarshan Deb of Link Road was planning to set up a wine shop in a locality where many people resides. There is also a school and a temple nearby. The protesting women took a pledge that they will continue with their agitation and will not allow that proposed bar cum wine shop to come up in their locality.
