February 12: The Government of Assam has launched HPC Scholarship Scheme to provide financial assistance of upto Re 1 Lakh to students whose parents are currently employed in Hindustan Paper Corporation’s units at Pachgram & Jagi Road. Expressing his reaction, Manabendra Chakraborty, trade union leader of HPC Paper Mill said, “We want Permanent solution, not tukre, tukre, relief for publicity which are discriminatory & divisive.”

This was  launched by Education & Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalashetra in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Regarding the HPC Scholarship Scheme, Manabendra Chakraborty said, “Those who are joining today’s Publicity ceremony being arranged by GOA in the name of one time relief to the students of HPC Paper Mill fraternity, are requested to ask the Government representatives to release Rs #620crs dues on Salary, PF, Gratuities, Pension, LIC, Terminal benefits etc as by withholding these Government in one side is earning interest & on other side 62 workers / employees already died & people are being killed under various compelling circumstances due to nonpayment of salary & Statutory dues since last 37 months.”

Mr. Chakraborty in a word of caution for the mill employees said, “Please Remember relief are from Taxpayer’s money & no one is entitled to take Credit on publicity.”
