Total corona cases rise to 536 as India goes under Lockdown

March 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a complete lockdown across the country for 21 days from Tuesday midnight, asserting that social distancing is the only way out for the country in its decisive battle against the coronavirus. India is rushing now to contain the economic and health fallout of the spreading coronavirus outbreak that has so far infected 536 in India and killed 10 people. Cases have more than tripled in the last five days.


“If we listen to the health experts we know that 21 days are crucial to break the cycle of transmission,” Modi said in his televised address to the nation on Tuesday. “For a few days forget what it means to go out. Today’s decision of a nationwide lockdown draws a line outside your home.”

As per the last updated data by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday night, the total confirmed cases in India jumped to 536, with 486 active cases and 40 recovered cases. 10 persons have till now lost their lives due to the deadly coronavirus.

In the world context, the total confirmed cases went up to 4,17,663. The total number of active cases were 2,90,746. However the positive aspect is that out of this, till now 1,08,312 COVID-19 affected people got recovered. The death toll, however, increased to 18,605.
