Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu wins bronze, 1st Indian woman to win 2 individual Olympic medals
Aug 1: PV Sindhu won the bronze medal, defeating China’s He Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15 in a match that she controlled throughout. The match lasted for 52 minutes. Sindhu had earlier returned with a silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016. The 26-year-old Sindhu is now just the second Indian athlete to win two individual Olympic medals.
This is India’s third medal at this Olympics. Mirabai Chanu had earlier won a silver in weightlifting. India had won two medals at the previous Olympics in Rio. Taking to his twitter handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “We are all elated by the stellar performance by @Pvsindhu1. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze at @Tokyo2020. She is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians. “
