TDC semester exam of Assam Univ to be rescheduled again!

December 23: Keeping in view, the election to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) on 19 January 2019, Assam University may have to again reschedule the TDC Odd Semester Examination, 2018. This has become a major cause of concern for the students and their guardians.

As per the original exam schedule,TDC Odd Semester Examination 2018 was supposed to begin on 26 November, 2018. However, in pursuance of the letter received from the Secretary, Assam State Election Commission regarding holding of Panchayat Election, the said examination was rescheduled and was supposed to be held from 17 December to 24 December (Honours exam) and 7 January 2019 to 31 January 2019 (pass Course). As such, the honours examination has already started and will be completed on Monday.

However, with the declaration of election to the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) on 19 January, things have become complicated as because the dates of election collides with the exam programme. As per the poll notification, schedule of election to the 28 constituencies in NC Hills will be held on January 19, 2019. Polling will be held across 280 polling stations between 7:00 A.M to 3:00 P.M. The counting of votes will be held on January 22, 2019  from 8 A.M onwards till completion of the counting process. It was further announced that date for re-polling, if any, is scheduled for January 22, 2019.

way2barak had a talk with some of the college teachers of Maibong and Haflong. They have expressed anguish because many of them will be assigned poll duties for which they will have to make a move for their respective polling centres even two days ahead of poll date. A senior faculty of Haflong Government College wishing to be unnamed said “Our college itself is a polling station and so how can exams be conducted on 19 January 2019? Moreover, many of us will be assigned poll duties which may require us to make a move on 17 January. That means, it would not be physically possible to conduct any exam since 17 January.” Moreover, he added that “As  the date for re-polling is on January 22, it is wise not to conduct exam on that date because who knows that re-poll may be held in Haflong college centre also.”

Further, many parents and guardians of NC Hills expressed the view that it is wise not to have any examination of the day of counting (22 January) keeping in mind the safety and security of their wards. Sources have informed that the Principal of Maibong Degree College has already written to the Controller of Examinations of Assam University to reschedule the exams.

In this context, it seems that the TDC Odd Semester Exam which were supposed to be held between 17 January 2019 to 22 January 2019 may have to be rescheduled. It all now depends on the Assam University authority how they handle the situation.

  1. If the fool like me say that some of the examinees are also employees of the government and they may be engaged in election duty.
Moreover when rounds of political meetings and rallies will be held, how can the students concentrate in study and prepare for the examination?
The students of degree course are voters.
How can you estimate that without attending the speeches of the leaders they will cast their votes?
The examination for CBCS will be held for one shift daily.
The postponed (if it so happen) examination of one week may be adjusted in the other shift of the CBCS exam days.
Because during those CBCS exam days the classes will not be feasible to held in the colleges.
When there is a will there is a way.
