‘Taare Zameen Par’: A day which brought difference in the lives of disadvantaged
February 7: There are people in this world who are awaiting since long for just a glimpse of sunshine. Yes, there are some noble souls who all of a sudden comes for help and brings sunshine in the lives of many. Such a similar story is that of Bijon Dushad of Dolu. Mithun Roy, an activist met Bijon during an eye camp organised by the Health Department at Dolu in Cachar district. There he learnt that being unable to obtain a Dibyang (Disabled) Certificate, Bijon Dusad also remained deprived of a wheel chair for the last 30 years which he desperately required to move about as he was unable to walk.
Mithun Roy informed that he came in contact with the newly formed ‘Netaji Subhas Smriti Mancha.’ He discussed the matter of Bijon Dusad with the members of the Mancha who inturn assured to donate a wheel chair for Bijon. Mithun at once went to Dolu and brought Bijon Dushad to the programme of ‘Netaji Subhas Smriti Mancha’ at Childrens Park, Silchar on Friday. Former Union minister Kabindra Purkaystha, Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul and renowned physician Kumar Kanti Das in presence of Swarnali Chowdhury and others handed over a wheel chair to Bijon.
Mithun Roy expressed his sincere thanks to ‘Netaji Subhas Smriti Mancha’ for being a messiah in the life of persons like Bijon Dushad. Drops of tears in the eyes of Bijon also expressed his gratitude towards those who gave him a new lease of life.
‘Netaji Subhas Smriti Mancha’ came into existence on Friday at Childrens Park, Silchar. In this connection, a programme entitled ‘Taare Zameen Par’, a day out with special (disabled & orphan) children was organised. Renowned physician Dr. Kumar Kanti Das was felicitated. A special guest lecture was also delivered by former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha. Twenty beneficiaries were distributed crutch on this occasion. The organising partners of this programme are Ellora Heritage, Lions Club, Saksham, North East India Company and Friends of Earth.
Also present during the occasion were Ritu Naha, Subhalakhsmi Chowdhury, Saheli Deb, Joygit Biswas, Ashish Paul, Soumitra Dutta Roy & Pallabita Sharma among others.
