অভিযোগ, এক কিশোরকে তারা জোর করে গাড়িতে তুলে নিতে চেয়েছিল এরা৷ সে চিৎকার জুড়লে এলাকাবাসী জড়ো হন৷ একজনকে এলাকাবাসী জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের পর মারপিট শুরু করতেই অন্য দুজন গাড়ি নিয়ে পালানোর চেষ্টা করে৷ মোবাইলে সব জায়গায় ছেলেধরাদের পালানোর কথা জানাজানি হয়ে যায়৷ ফলে এরা বেশিদুর এগোতে পারেনি৷
আলগাপুরে গাড়ি আটকে মারপিট করতে উদ্যত হয় স্থানীয় জনতা৷ এরা দৌঁড়ে এক দোকানে ঢুকে শাটার নামিয়ে দেয়৷ জনতার একাংশ চালের টিন খুলে দোকানে ঢুকে মারতে থাকে তাদের৷ পুলিশ তাদের উদ্ধারে গেলে তাদের সঙ্গে বিবাদ বাঁধে৷ লাঠিচার্জের পাল্টা চলে ইটবৃষ্টি৷ শেষপর্যন্ত তিন যুবককেই হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে৷ এমন জখম তারা যে, নাম-ঠিকানা জানা যায়নি৷
October 11: On suspicion of child-lifters, three youth were mob lynched at Laskar Bazar area of Hailakandi district. Public involved in a clash with the police when the later came to the rescue of the 3 youth. 15 persons including 2 policemen were injured in the ugly clash. The 3 youth went on a Innova car to Laskar Bazar on Friday evening. It was alleged that the trio attempted to forcibly take away one child along with them in their car. But when the child started screaming, people of the area rushed to the spot.
When one of the local inhabitant questioned them and started to physically abuse one among the trio, the other two youth attempted to run away from the spot riding on their car. However, people informed all through mobile that two ‘child-lifters’ have fled away. As such, they could not go too far. Their car was stopped at Algapur and the local people over there started to beat the two youth mercilessly. In order to save their lives, they somehow managed to run away and went inside a shop and closed the shutter.
But this could hardly prevent the enraged public. Some of them climbed on the top of the shop, removed the tin’s from the roof, jumped inside the shop and started to beat them once again. When police tried o rescue the two boys, people broke into a clash with the police. At this stage, when police lathi-charged towards the mob, the later responded by pelting stones at the police. After a while, the police rescued all three of them and got them admitted in the hospital. Till now, the name and address of the three youth are not known.
In a social media post, J. Keerthi, Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi addressed the public of the district and wrote, “It is reiterated that there is no report on missing persons or kidnapping cases filed in Police Stations of the district. Fear psychosis is being built on unfounded rumours. Matter is under investigation and action will be initiated against miscreants. Request everyone to remain calm. We assure you that administration and police will remain alert and on the vigil.”
