Sushmita demands rehabilitation of around 82 families who were evicted from Rajonikhal, Dholai

June 13: In a letter addressed to Sunnydeo Choudhury, Divisional Forest officer, Cachar, former MP and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev rehabilitation of around 82 families who were evicted from Rajonikhal area of Dhoai. She further mentioned that the eviction carried out has given rise to a human crisis leaving the helpless people including children and women without any roof over their head and also without food.

Sushmita Dev severely criticised the forest department for carrying out the eviction drive without having a simultaneous plan of rehabilitation.  She regarded it as an inhuman act to render people homeless.

It needs mention here that Sushmita Dev visited Rajnikhal under Dholai Assembly constituency. where recently an eviction drive was carried out from Forest Department to free up the forest land from encroachers. She raised the issue that the eviction drive was carried with such a short notice that the inhabitants of the area did not get any scope to shift.
