Students asked to write answer on BJP, opposition smells saffronisation

November 21: Srirampur Suryamani Memorial Higher Secondary School at Kailashahar in Unakoti district of Tripura has been in the news recently for setting a question for the students in the Social Science subject. There at  Suryamani School, a question was set to write a short note on ‘Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).’ This question has raised a great uproar, wherein the opposition CPI (M) and Congress have accused that with the change in government in Tripura, the education system is pushed towards saffronisation.

The said question on Social Science was mandatory and it carried 3 marks. Bijan Dhar, CPI(M) State Secretary accused the BJP government of secretly carrying on a hidden agenda to pollute young minds. He criticised the state government for initiating saffron agenda even in the education sector. A similar concern was raised by Tapas Dey, Vice President of State Congress. Mr. Dey urged upon the BJP government to keep education out of their personal political agenda.

However, Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Headmaster of the school rubbished all criticisms as baseless. He categorically stated that the topic is a part of a chapter in the social science subject in the concerned class on Political Parties. He urged all to first read the syllabus properly and then to comment. BJP is a political party and so the question set in the examination is very much there in the syllabus is what the Headmaster stated.
