Strange yet true: 7000 engineers, graduates apply for sanitary worker postsঅবাক হলেও সত্যি, স্যানিটারি ওয়ার্কার পদে আবেদন করলেন ৭ হাজার ইঞ্জিনিয়ার, গ্র্যাজুয়েট
November 29: In a bizzare incident at Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, 7,000 engineers, graduates and diploma-holders has applied for 549 grade-1 posts of sanitary workers in its city Corporation. The city Corporation in Coimbatore had called for applications for the post of sanitary workers and the applicants appeared for the three-day interview and verification of certificates which began on Wednesday.
The minimum qualification for the post of sanitary workers was SSLC. However, on verification, it was found that nearly 70 per cent of the candidates have completed SSLC and most of them were engineers, post- graduates, graduates and diploma-holders. Those already working as the contract sanitary workers for the last 10 years have also applied for these permanent jobs.
In some cases, it was found the applicants were already employed in private firms with just Rs 6,000-Rs 7,000 as salary, but the government job of sanitary worker attracted them as the starting salary is ₹15,700.
