Station to be renovated retaining its heritage, demands Samiti

২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর : কাছাড় জেলার প্রাচীন ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্যের ওপর ভিত্তি করে শিলচর রেল স্টেশনে সৌন্দর্যায়নের দাবি তুলল ভাষা শহিদ স্টেশন শহিদ স্মরণ সমিতি। শনিবার সমিতির পক্ষ থেকে এ সংক্রান্ত একটি স্মারকপত্র কাছাড়ের জেলাশাসকের মাধ্যমে উত্তর-পূর্ব সীমান্ত রেলের ডিভিশনাল ম্যানেজারকে দেওয়া হয়েছে। জেলাশাসক ডাঃ এস লক্ষণনের হাতে এ দিন স্মারকপত্রটি তুলে দেন সমিতির পক্ষে সভাপতি বাবুল হোড়, সাধারণ সম্পাদক ডাঃ রাজীব কর সহ সমিতির অন্য সদস্যরা।

স্মারকপত্রে বলা হয়েছে, কোনও একটি অঞ্চল কিছু চিহ্নের মাধ্যমে তার প্রাচীন ইতিহাস এবং সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য সর্বসমক্ষে তুলে ধরে। সেই নিদর্শনগুলো বিভিন্ন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থানে প্রদর্শন করাও হয়ে থাকে। আর রেল স্টেশন হচ্ছে এমনই একটি স্থান, যার মাধ্যমে পর্যটকরা কোনও একটি অঞ্চল সম্পর্কে প্রাথমিক ধারণা গ্রহণ করেন। বরাক উপত্যকার সুপ্রাচীন কাছারি রাজত্বের বিভিন্ন ঐতিহাসিক নিদর্শনগুলো সর্বসমক্ষে তুলে ধরে বৈচিত্র্যের মধ্যে ঐক্যের দৃষ্টান্ত বিভিন্ন সময়ে তুলে ধরা হয়েছে।

প্রথমে শিলচর রেলস্টেশনের সম্মুখভাগ কাছাড়ি রাজ্যের স্থাপত্য অনুসারে ডিজাইন করা হয়েছিল। ২০০৭ সালে তার গম্বুজটিতে ফাটল দেখা দেওয়ায় তাকে মেরামতি না করে তার উপর অস্থায়ী বিজ্ঞাপনে সি,আই,সিট (টিন) দিয়ে গোটা গম্বুজটিকে ঢেকে দেওয়া হয়, সমিতির প্রতিবাদকে তোওয়াক্কা না করে। ২০০৭ এর রেল বিভাগের এই ‘অস্থায়ী’ কাজ ২০১৮তেও বিদ্যমান। এ ব্যপারে রেল কর্তৃপক্ষ ওয়াকিবহাল আছেন।। স্মারকপত্রে আরও বলা হয়, একটি রেলস্টেশন প্রকৃতপক্ষে একটি অঞ্চলের গেটওয়ে। ফলে রেলস্টেশন সেই অঞ্চলের ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্যকে প্রতিফলিত করবে। দেশের অন্যান্য অঞ্চলেও রেল কর্তৃপক্ষ স্থানীয় আবেগকে সম্মান জানিয়ে স্টেশনের ডিজাইন করেছেন। এ বিষয়টি মাথায় রেখে শিলচর রেলস্টেশনের সামনের অংশ কাছাড়ি রাজার স্থাপত্যের ওপর ভিত্তি করে এবং স্টেশনের ভেতরের অংশে বরাক উপত্যকার অন্য পরম্পরাগত স্থাপত্যের নমুনা স্থাপন করতে অনুরোধ জানানো হয়েছে।

এ দিন স্মারকপত্র দেওয়ার সময় বাবুল হোড় ও রাজীব কর ছাড়াও সমিতির পক্ষে ছিলেন স্বপন দাশগুপ্ত, বিমল রায়, অমিতাভ দে প্রমুখ। অন্যান্য সহযোগী সংগঠনের মধ্যে সম্মিলিত সাংস্কৃতিক মঞ্চের সভাপতি সুব্রত ভট্টাচার্য, বীক্ষণ সিনে কমিউনের কমল চক্রবর্তী, ডিমাসা পরিষদের জিমুতলাল বর্মণ, প্রসেনজিৎ জিদুং বর্মণ, নিতু রাজিয়ুং বর্মণ, অমিত লাংথাসা এবং হিন্দিভাষী যুব ছাত্র পরিষদের সঞ্জীব রায় প্রমুখ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

September 29: A strong demand was raised by the Bhasha Shahid Station Shahid Smaran Samiti to renovate Silchar railway station by retaining the symbols of culture and heritage of the district. In this regard, a memorandum was given to the Divisional Manager of NEF Railway on Saturday through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. The memorandum was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner Dr. S .Lakhsmanan by the President and Secretary of the Samiti, Babul Hore and Dr. Rajib Kar respectively.

It was stated in the memorandum that a locality is known by its history & cultural heritage and the same is visualized through some symbol. Every locality tries to display its history and culture by erecting such symbols in the important places. Railway Station is an entry point for the tourists and hence such depictions over there is definitely a culturally loaded category.

Barak Valley represents a unique feature of ‘unity in diversity’ in its historical and cultural perspective represented through the symbol of the architectural pattern of the Kachari Kingdom. Previously, the architectural pattern in the entry of the station represented the unique style of the Kachari rulers. But later, in 2007, cracks occurred on the dome, so it was just covered temporarily with CI sheet (tin), blatantly ignoring the opposition of the Samiti. But the irony of the matter lies in the fact that the temporal arrangement made in 2007 is still continuing in 2018. The members of the Samiti expressed the view that the Railway authorities are aware of this matter.

It was further stated in the said memorandum that, as Railway station is the gateway to a particular locality, it should communicate its history and culture. A discerning eye would reveal that in every part of the globe, the station is designed keeping in view the cultural traits of the locality. It is in this backdrop that they demanded to restore the earlier dome which was a witness to the Kachari style of architecture. Further, they also raised the demand of decorating Silchar Railway Station with various artifacts which are unique to this particular place. This they referred to as a matter of the identity of the people of the valley.

Apart from Babul Hore and Dr. Rajib Kar, others who were also present during the submission of the memorandum were—Swapan Dasgupta, Amitabh Dey and others on behalf of the Samiti; Subrata Bhattacharjee represented the Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha; Kamla Chakraborty from Beekshan Cine Commune; Jimut Lal Barman, Prasenjit Jidung Barman, Nitu Rajiyang Barman, Amit Langthasha from Dimasa Parishad and Sanjib Roy from Hindi Bhashi Yuva Chhatra Parishad.
