December 8: Ten districts of Assam along with Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi is all set to go for Panchayat Election on 9 December. Out of the 26 districts of Assam, polling in 16 districts took place on 5 December. At Cachar alone, there are a total of 1659 polling stations. For smooth management, 733 poll parties started for equal number of polling stations with ballot boxes and other materials on Friday; whereas, the rest 926 polling teams left on Saturday from ISBT and ISTT located at Ramnagar.
A total of 3700 polling staff went on Friday to 733 different polling stations on Friday. Around 1000 police accompanied them. On Saturday, 4700 polling staff accompanied by around 1300 security staff went for the remaining 926 polling stations. A total of 96 sector officers have been deployed for the district of Cachar. Almost 10,54,554 voters would be exercising their franchise on Sunday.
The 10 districts where Panchayat Elections in the second phase will be held on 9 December are: Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, South Salmara-Mankachar, Goalpara, Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj and Hojai. SP Cachar, Rakesh Roshan said, “We are not using any para military forces straight on in any of the polling areas but would be ready to move in fast as and when required.”
