Social media post of a patient lying on the floor of Karimganj Civil Hospital awakens its Chairman from deep sleep
April 24: A facebook post of a youth wherein pictures were posted of the sorry state of affairs prevailing at Karimganj Civil Hospital invited the wrath of the social media users. In the post, an aged lady was seen lying on the floor of Karimganj Civil Hospital with her attendant standing nearby and a nurse administering saline on the lady sitting on the floor.
The post became so viral that it was shared by 146 users within a span of only 10 hours. The post was made in his facebook wall by one Rahul Chakraborty. 104 others commented on this post. The impact of this post was so immense that Chairman of Karimganj Civil Hospital Krishnendu Paul became bound to wake up from his deep slumber and make positive intervention.
Krishnendu Paul soon after watching this post inquired regarding the same over telephone as he was then in Guwahati. He called the Superintendent of Karimganj Civil Hospital and urgently asked to arrange a bed for that lady. Within a very short span this lady patient was shifted to a bed.
However, concerned citizens have expressed surprise as to the role of Karimganj Civil Hospital. A retired teacher of the town on the condition of anonymity said, “The hospital which denied seat to the poor lady and was compelled to lie on the floor was shifted to the bed the moment the Chairman of the hospital intervened. This proves that if the hospital authority wished, they could have provided her a bed when she got admitted. This is how the common people are treated in the government run hospitals.”
