Silchar DCC writes to CM Assam to take immediate measures for flood affected people of Cachar

July 18: As per the daily flood bulletin of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), flood situation in Assam remains grim with over 57.51 lakh people being affected and 27 lives lost across 29 out of 33 districts of the state. Water entered at various low lying areas in the three districts of Barak Valley also. Assam Chief Minister also came to Barak Valley to take stock of the flood scenario.

It is in this backdrop that a delegation of Silchar District Congress Committee (DCC) submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. In the said letter, signed by Silchar DCC President, it was stated that the sudden flood in different parts of Cachar District has destroyed the crops and properties to a large extent.

They also pointed out that many areas under Salchapra Block (in Borkhola constituency) were badly affected. The dyke at Raipur was also washed away causing great hardship to the people. Further, it was mentioned that the PWD Road at Pelador was washed away by the rushing water of flood. It was in this context, that Silchar DCC urged upon the Chief Minister to to adopt necessary measures so that works of relief, rehabilitation and medical attention may be provided to the flood victims. A copy of the same letter was also also handed over to ADC Rajib Roy in the absence of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

The delegation which submitted the memorandum to ADC Cachar included Pradip Kumar Dey-President-Silchar District Congress Committee, Sanjeev Roy-Secretary-APCC, Chairman of Silchar DCC Media Cell-Partha Ranjan Chakraborty and Amit Bardhan.
