Save Gandhi Bagh: Youth Congress launches signature campaign led by Sushmita Dev
November 25: Youth Congress, NSUI & Seva Dal launched a signature campaign under the caption “Save Gandhi Bagh, Save Nature, Save Silchar.” On Monday, signatures were collected from the students of Ramanuj Vidya Mandir at Chencoorie Road, Silchar. Former MP and President of All India Mahila Congress, Sushmita Dev was present during the signature campaign.
Ms. Dev explained the students about the importance of ‘green’ in the lives of the human beings. She said, “We all want that the park at Gandhi bagh, Silchar to be developed. But Silchar Municipality has started a project under the name ‘Amusement Park’ over there. We are not campaigning against any amusement park. But we want the amusement park outside the town area. You can feel the pain of traffic jam at Silchar while coming from your home to your school. If such an amusement park, hotel, shopping mall is built at Gandhi bagh, then it will add to the existing traffic woes.”
Later on addressing the media, Sushmita Dev said, “We have started a campaign for saving the greenery of Gandhi Bagh in the schools. We have also done the same at Cachar College. If in Gandhi Bagh, hotel, shopping mall and bar is made then I feel that the future of the children and the students will be at stake. We have no objection for any amusement park, but let the government provide space for it outside the town area of Silchar. We want that the greenery of Gandhi Bagh to be retained. Today the students who have signed were given a wrist band wherein it is written, ‘Save Gandhi Bagh, Green Silchar.’ I thank the students for their spontaneious participation in this campaign. We hope this campaign will be an eye opener for the Municipal Chairperson.”
The students were seen to be enthusiastically participating in the campaign for saving the greenery at Gandhi Bagh and all put their signature at the call of Sushmita Dev.
