SANYOG 2020: St. Xavier’s College Alumni Association arrives in Silchar on peace tour

February 14: St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association with St Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata has undertaken ‘SANYOG 2020’ – an international torch light peace tour to commemorate International Mother Language Day. The concept of ‘Sanyog’ is to promote each and every native mother language all across the globe – especially Bengali. The aim of this journey is to spread the glory of universal Mother Languages among all and upholding everyone’s rich cultural heritage.

In this connection, ‘Sanyog 2020’ team arrived in Silchar on Wednesday. On Thursday, Team Sanyog 2020 offered rich tributes to the language martyrs of 1961 at the martyrs column at Silchar Railway Station. They were accorded a warm welcome by ‘Bhasha Shahid Station Sahid Saran Samiti.’ They were overwhelmed to learn how people in this southern most part of Assam laid down their lives 6 decades ago for preservation of their mother tongue ‘Bengali.’

During the day, Team Sanyog 2020, as per their schedule visited Assam University, Silchar and paid rich homage at the martyrs column situated near the main gate of the varsity campus.  During the evening, a cultural programme was organised at Gandhi Bhawan, Silchar wherein team members of St. Xavier’s Alumni Association and few students from Assam University performed. The President and General Secretary of Assam University Students’ Union were present along with other students.

Later on sharing their views, members of Team ‘Sanyog 2020’ said, “Started in the year 2015 with a vision to glorify the beauty of the Mother Language and to spread the fragrance of diversified Culture through the power of youth. In these 5 years, the flame of the holy Torch has touched the root of some of the greatest Institutions of this world namely, University of Dhaka, Jahangir Nagar University, Govt. MM College of Jessore, St. Xavier’s College Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi), The Tagore Society, Singapore, Singapore Bangladesh Society, BLCF and Hindi Foundation Singapore, St. Joseph’s College in Bangalore, Indian Embassy Dubai, Bengali Associations of Dubai, Indian Association of Bangkok, Bangladesh Deputy High Commission Kolkata.”

The primary objective of ‘Sanyog 2020’ Objective includes:
 To commemorate the Martyrs’ of Language Movement
 To foster the essence of different languages on this occasion
 To unify the diverse Cultures of various parts of this world
 Symbolic rally for Peace, Integrity, Prosperity and to ensure the involvement of youth towards its Cultural Values
