Samakal & Swaralipi to organise ‘Gaan Mela’ 2020 on 31 December
Dec. 21: Keeping upto their tradition, Samkal & Swaralip will be organising ‘Gaan Mela’ 2020 on 31 December at Ashirbad Banquet Hall near Silchar DSA. It will be a day-long programme of cultural events, which will begin at 10 AM and continue till 10 PM. This was informed by the organisers of this unique cultural event in a press meet on Monday.
Expressing his views, Arindam Bhattacharjee on behalf of the organisers of the ‘Gaan Mela’ said, “We have been organising this traditional music festival ‘Gaan Mela’ since last few years. It has been our humble endeavour to showcase our traditional music as a challenge to the western cultural aggression mostly exhibited on the eve of the new year.” He, however, mentioned that this year due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, they won’t be able to conduct the ‘Gaan Mela’ in the usual manner they generally celebrate it. The organisers have curtailed the celebration. This year obeying the COVID-19 protocols, the ‘Gaan Mela’ will be held only for one day on 31 December.
The organisers further informed that as the celebrations will be held for only one day, so they had to curtail their programme to a considerable extent. The Gaan Mela will be held during the day in three phases, wherein children, amateur artists and also the accomplished performers will be able to showcase their talents. The ‘Gaan Mela’ will be inaugurated at 10 AM on 31 December by renowned artist Moitreyee Dam. Dr. Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee will be the chief guest of the occasion. The stages will be dedicated in the names of Dipak Bhattacharjee, Hiralal Bhowmick and Bhaskar Bijoy Gupta. The programme will come to an end by folk performances of Bikramjit Baulia and Rajarshee Chakraborty.
Present during the press meet were Arindam Bhattacharjee, Gora Chakraborty, Joya Bhowal, Panchali Dutta, Bhaskar Das, Arundhuti Dutta Roy, Pompa Dutta, Sanjukta Dutta Roy, Shubra Bhattacharjee, Sonali Choudhury and Supradip Dutta Roy.
