‘Samakal’ distributed free meal on their 37th anniversary

সমকাল সাংস্কৃতিক সংস্থার ৩৭তম বর্ষপূর্তি উপলক্ষে বিনামূল্যে দুস্থদের খাবার বিতরণ করলেন সদস্যরা। বৃহস্পতিবার সকালে শিলচর হাসপাতাল রোডের সাউথ কর্নারের সামনে এই খাদ্য সামগ্রী বিতরণ করা হয়েছে।

প্রতি বছরই ৬ সেপ্টেম্বর বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে দিনটি পালন করে সমকাল। এ বছর একটু ব্যতিক্রমী উদ্যোগ নিয়েছেন তাঁরা। দরিদ্র নারায়ণ সেবার মাধ্যমে সংস্থার নতুন বছরের পথচলা শুরু করেছেন। সংস্থার এক কর্মকর্তা জানান, সকাল ৯টা থেকে ১১টার মধ্যে যারাই এসেছেন তাদের বিনামূল্যে খাবার দেওয়া হয়েছে। মেনুতে ছিল ভাত, ডাল ও সবজি। এ দিন সকালে এই খাবার বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে ছিলেন সমকালের পক্ষে অরিন্দম ভট্টাচার্য, গোরা চক্রবর্তী, সাখি ভট্টাচার্য, সংযুক্তা দত্তরায়, জয়া ভাওয়াল, অভিজিৎ ধর, পঙ্কজ নাথ, শুভ্রা ভট্টাচার্য, পম্পা দত্ত, সংহিতা সেনগুপ্ত, বিপ্লব বিশ্বাস প্রমুখ।

প্রসঙ্গত, শিলচর শহরের হাসপাতাল রোডে রয়েছে নিরামিষ রেস্টুরেন্ট সাউথ কর্নার। এর মাধ্যমে রেস্টুরেন্ট মালিক সারাদিন ব্যবসা করেন ঠিকই, তবে ব্যবসার ফাঁকে প্রায় বছর খানেক ধরে জনসেবাও চালিয়ে যাচ্ছেন। প্রতি দিন সকাল ৯টা থেকে ১১টা পর্যন্ত মাত্র ৫ টাকার বিনিময়ে সাউথ কর্নার কর্তৃপক্ষ গরিব মানুষের জন্য খাবারের ব্যবস্থা রেখেছেন। আজকের দিনে মাত্র ৫ টাকায় ঠিকভাবে এক খিলি পানও পাওয়া যায় না, সেখানে ৫ টাকার বিনিময়ে পেট পুরে খাবারের ব্যবস্থা করে এক দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করেছেন তাঁরা। সাউথ কর্নার কর্তৃপক্ষের এই উদ্যোগে সাড়া দিয়ে অনেকেই এই রেস্টুরেন্টের মাধ্যমে দুস্থদের সেবায় এগিয়ে আসেন। তখন অবশ্য ৫ টাকাও দিতে হয় না। ঠিক যেমন সমকাল ৩৭তম বর্ষপূর্তিতে বিনামুল্যে খাবার বিতরণ করেছে।

September 6: On the occasion of the 37th anniversary of ‘Samakal’ Cultural Association, the members distributed free meals to the poor and needy. On Thursday, free meal was served in front of the food joint ‘South Corner’ at Rangirkhari.

Every year programmes are organized by ‘Samakal’ to celebrate their foundation day, 6 September in a befitting manner. However, this year Team ‘Samakal’ has taken an extraordinary initiative. They have decided to start their journey this year by serving free food to the poor. A member of the association has informed that whoever has come in between 9 to 11 in the morning were given meal free of cost. The menu comprised of rice, dal and a mixed vegetable. Present during the food distribution occasion were Arindam Bhattacharjee, Gora Chakraborty, Sakhi Bhattacharjee, Sanjukta Dutta Roy, Jaya Bhaowal, Abhijit Dhar, Pankaj Nath, Subhra Bhattacharjee, Pompa Dutta, Sanhita Sengupta, Biplob Biswas and others.

It needs mention here that the owner of the food joint ‘South Corner’ is also into social service along with his restaurant business. Since last year, he is regularly offering meal at only Rs.5 from 9 to 11 in the morning for the poor people. In this age, when prices of every commodity are soaring high, providing meal at only Rs.5 seems to be a dream. This initiative of ‘South Corner’ has got the support of many individual and associations of the town who also distribute food to the poor at Rs.5 through ‘South Corner.’ Many a times, those who donate money for providing food through ‘South Corner’ like ‘Samakal’ do not charge even Rs.5 from the poor and needy.
