‘Run for Vote’ Awareness Drive carried out at Silchar

March 31: ;Run for Vote’, an awareness drive was carried out by the Cachar District Administration at Silchar on Saturday. The prime objective of this drive is to motivate every section of the people of Cachar District about the importance of participating in the electoral process during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Students from various schools and colleges of the district had participated in the awareness programme initiated by the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar. The ‘Run for Vote’ was flagged off early in the morning by Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri. The most jubilant in the run were the students representing various colleges, who were the first time voters. Apart from the students, government officials and staff, general public, media started the run from near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.

The ‘Run for Vote’ rally went thorough out the major parts of the town. Colourful banners and placards were displayed wherein voters were urged upon to exercise their franchise of 18 April in large numbers.

Addressing the gathering during the event, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Laya Madduri appealed to the electorates of the of the district to come out in record numbers on the day of the polls. She further urged the first time voters to take the lead in raising awareness by motivating all sections of people in the society about the importance of participating in the electoral process. She also informed that awareness programmes at all polling booths were carried on by the Training & Awareness Cell.

A total of 11,93,908 voters of Cachar district would cast their vote in 1461 polling stations to decide the fate of Silchar Lok Sabha seat. There will be 255 polling stations at No.9 Silchar Legislative Assembly Consituency (LAC). In a similar manner, there will be 219 polling booths at No.10 Sonai LAC, 206 polling stations at No.11 Dholai (SC) LAC, 196 polling booths at No.12 Udharbond LAC, 192 polling stations at No.13 Lakhipur LAC, 175 polling booths at No.14 Borkhola constituency and 218 polling stations at No.15 Katigorah constituency. That means at Cachar district, there will be a total of 1461 polling stations. The result of the election will be declared on 23 May, 2019.
