Rain may play spoilsport during Durga Puja, forecasts Weather Department
September 30: Rain is indeed a dreaded word in festive season and if the festival is Durga Puja then it is certainly a matter of great worry. The forecast by the National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is clearly an indication that rains are to predominate atleast upto the 1st day of Durga Puja, if not the Puja altogether!
Incessant rain for the last few days has given much pain to the Durga Puja organising committees as they are finding it great difficult to complete the construction of pandals on time. The Maha Saptami or the 1st day of Durga Puja is on 5 October, 2019. But the weather forecast gives an indication that rain may play spoilsport during the festival.
The meteorological department has predicted that moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers are likely to continue at most places over Assam over the next few days. The local weather report for Silchar by India Meteorological Department (IMD) states that on 1 October, it will generally be cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
But on 2 October thunderstorm with rain is likely to lash over many parts of Assam. The National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC) in its bulletin said that moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in various parts of Barak Valley on 3 & 4 October.
IMD says that the rains or thundershowers is likely to occur during the 1st two days of Durga festival, that is, on 5 & 6 October, 2019. However, from late morning 6 October, rainfall is likely to stop. The positive indication at this point is that as per the forecast of weather experts, there may be instances of scattered or isolated rainfall in some parts of Assam but largely the weather will be fine since afternoon of Maha Asthami.
