Raid at Goldighi Mall: KFC, Nahaz, Subway & other food outlets fined for using polybags & single use plastic

September 25: Since the last month, Cachar District administration has geared up against the use of single-use-plastic. After giving multiple warnings, raids were conducted in various parts of the district. Those found in possession of single-use-plastic bags etc were fined. But till now all such raids were conducted primarily in ordinary roadside shops.

On Wednesday, a joint operation was conducted in all the food joints at Silchar Goldighi Mall by district administration, Pollution Control Board, police and Silchar Municipality. The joint raid against Plastic use was conducted at KFC, Dominos, Parijat Leisure, Nahaz, Baskin Robins, Subway, Fresh Bake and Eyelex food stall. When on one hand, fine was imposed upon these food joints, administration also praised Gomoti and Pizza Hut for not using polybags and single-use-plastic.

The raid on Wednesday was conducted by Navanita Hazarika,ACS, Aditi Nunisa ALRS, Nippan Paul-representative from pollution control board and police. Heavy fines were imposed and polybags along with other single use plastic materials found in their possession were seized.

It needs mention here that KFC and Subway were fined Rs.10,000 each whereas Nahaz was imposed a fine of Rs.6000. Many other food outlets in the Mall were given strict warning for not to indulge in the use of polybag and single-use-plastic in the near future.
