APDCL disconnects street lights in various parts of Silchar for non-payment of bill by SMB

June 30: Due to non-payment of electricity bills, 13 street light points under Silchar Municipal Board (SMB) have been disconnected on Tuesday. The areas under SMB where street light were disconnected are Greater Link road area, Greater Das Colony area, Portion of Sonai Road & Portion of Hailakandi Road. Sharing this information, the Assam Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) officials stated, “Inconvenience caused to the general public is sincerely regretted.”

Also on Tuesday, as per section 56 (Disconnection of supply in default of payment) of The Electricity Act 2003, many defaulting consumers with huge outstanding bill were disconnected in Kanakpur part-II, Silchar. The SDE, FME, Senior Meter reader, Meter Reader and Team of Central Reserve Police Force were in the field to ensure effective disconnection.

In a message to the electricity consumers, APDCL officials stated, “Defaulting consumers BEWARE!!! Our team is ready to disconnect your line for non-payment of energy bills.”
