Pulwama attack: Assam University fraternity donate one-day’s salary to the martyr’s family

February 15: The Pulwama terror attack that left at least 40 CRPF personnel dead has triggered nationwide outrage. Protests erupted in many places across India and people took to the streets shouting anti-Pakistan slogans. Activists of different political parties, social groups and trader outfits joined common people during these demonstrations.

In this connection, Assam University fraternity too stood along with the nation in condemning the barbaric incident and asserted their full cooperation to the government in this hour of crisis. On Friday, a condolence meeting was convened in front of Raja Rammohan Roy administrative building of the varsity. Both the teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsity offered tribute to the martyrs of Pulwama massacre.

A strong protest was registered in the condolence meeting which was presided over by Prof. Ranju Rani Dhamela, Vice Chancellor in-charge of Assam University, Silchar. It was unanimously decided that both the teaching and the non-teaching staff of the university would donate their one-day salary for the welfare of the family members of the martyrs.

Dr. Sanjib Bhattacharjee, Register of the University read out a note of lament and sent a copy of the same to the President of India. It was stated therein that Assam University extends full support to the central government in the steps it would take in combating terrorism. They took a pledge to stand beside the family of the martyrs along with the nation. They stated that the sacrifice of the jawans would not go in vain.

A Jaish suicide bomber on Thursday rammed a car packed with explosives into a CRPF convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. The CRPF has confirmed at least 40 deaths in the suicide bombing, counted among the bloodiest in Kashmir. The paramilitary force has ordered a full Court of Inquiry
