Public entry restricted at vulnerable Sindura tourist spots

Cachar District Admin promises improved infrastructure before reopening sites

Way2barak, July 24 : In a decisive step to safeguard public safety and prevent any untoward incidents, the Cachar District Administration has issued an order restricting public access to certain tourist spots in the Sindura area under Katigorah Revenue Circle. The move comes in light of identified vulnerabilities at these sites due to inadequate safety measures, lack of infrastructure, and insufficient disaster management arrangements.
The District Commissioner, exercising powers under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, stated that allowing unrestricted public visits to these locations without proper safeguards poses a significant risk to visitors. The order, issued on Wednesday, takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice.
According to the directive, the Circle Officer of Katigorah, Block Development Officers of Kalain and Katigorah, along with the Officers-in-Charge of concerned police stations, outposts, and Village Defence Parties, have been tasked with strict enforcement of the order. Regular monitoring and reporting will be carried out by the in-charges of Kalain Outpost and Katigorah Police Station to ensure complete compliance, and any violations will attract stringent action under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act and other relevant laws.
The District Administration of Cachar reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of the public, assuring that access to these tourist spots will only be restored after adequate safety and disaster-preparedness arrangements are put in place. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the authorities and refrain from visiting the restricted areas during this period.
The order underscores the administration’s proactive approach towards disaster risk mitigation and its resolve to maintain public order and safety. All concerned departments have been directed to submit regular compliance reports to the District Commissioner to ensure seamless coordination and effective enforcement.
