Protest demonstration staged: Demand raised to trace 2 missing children

July 1: Two children went missing from Tapaban Nagar area near Silchar town on 9 June 2019. Somabala Das, mother of these two children went out at dusk from her house on 9 June taking along with her 11 year old son Sourav Das and 7 year old daughter Supriya Das. After 3 days, that is, on 12 June Somabala Das was recovered by the police from Silchar Ashram Road in an unconscious state. However, the two children could not be traced. Her husband, Surodhan Das filed a complaint with the police that his two children were sold by his wife. As such, Somabala Das was arrested by the police.

Since then 22 days have elapsed but yet police has failed to trace the two missing children. This has led to great resentment among the people. On Monday, under the banner of Children Protection & Citizen Welfare Society a massive protest demonstration was launched near the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, wherein demand was raised to trace the children. Some other organisations also took part in the demonstration.

A memorandum was also submitted ti Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri. It was stated by them that two years ago, a small girl Trisha was kidnapped from the Assam University campus. They asserted that ADGP Mukesh Agarwal came to Silchar and led the operation of tracing that child. After a lapse of only 4 days, Trisha was recovered from Meghalaya. They alleged that there was no eagerness on the part of the police to trace Souravh and Supriya because they belong to a poor family.

It was learnt that the Deputy Commissioner assured them that she will instruct the police to trace the two missing children on a war footing. Later on, they also submitted a memorandum to Police Super Jagdish Das. He also assured them full cooperation and asked them to keep trust on the police.
