Primary school teachers stages protest & gives call for ‘Jail Bharo’
February 26: The teachers of government primary schools of Silchar under the banner of Silchar Lower Primary Teachers’ Association took out a protest rally on Tuesday. In a bid to push their demands, the teachers took to the streets boycotting classes and staged ‘Jail Bharo’ protest holding placards demanding fulfillment of their various issues.
The issues which have been plaguing the primary schools of include pending approvals of recruited teachers, discrepancy in wages of teachers,no regular post of Head Teacher, issue of lowering of basic Pay of graduate teachers from Rs. 8,700 to Rs. 7,400, withdrawal of New Pension Scheme (NPS), proper implemention of provincialised policy, distribution of adequate books & copies among the students at the same time and at the beginning of the session, etc.
In this regard, the association has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the Deputy Commisioner of Cachar. In the said memorandum, they requested his immediate intervention so that the proper teaching-learning atmosphere is restored at the earliest.
Through the memorandum, the Primary Teachers’ Association demanded remuneration of Rs. 8,700 for the lower primary teachers according to the 7th Pay Committee’s recommendations, creation of the post of head master, recruitment of adequate number of teachers, timely supply of textbooks, barring teachers from duties of other non-teaching works among others.
