Polling going on smoothly in 10 all-women polling booths at Silchar
April 18: Polling is going on smoothly in the ten all-women polling booths at Silchar. The Election Commission since the last Lok Sabha polls has mooted the concept to set up booths with only women staffers to send across a message of women’s empowerment. At these special booths, the presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel will are women. The technical term which is used to describe such all-women polling station is ‘Pink’ Polling Booths.
Along with the rest of the country, there will be Pink Polling Booths at Silchar Lok Sabha constituency for the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls. Out of a total of 1461 polling stations in Silchar parliamentary constituency, 10 booths were earmarked as all-women or Pink Polling Booths in Silchar Assembly segment. It needs mention here that all the 10 pink polling stations are situated within Silchar Municipal area. During the last assembly election of 2016, there were 7 Pink Polling Booths, one each in all the seven Assembly Constituencies of Cachar district. The 10-all female polling booths at Silchar during the Lok Sabha Polls 2019 will be set up in the following polling stations:
- G.C. College (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.113
- Adharchand HS School, (Room No.2), Polling Station N0.121
- Durga Shankar Patshala (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.123
- Chhotelal Seth Hindi School (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.127
- Tarapur Girls’ High School, Polling Station N0.135
- K.V. Silchar (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.149
- Swami Vivekananda Bahumukhi Vidyalaya High School, (Room No.2), Polling Station N0.153
- Cachar High School, (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.169
- Holy Cross HS School, (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.215
- Radhamadhab College (Room No.1), Polling Station N0.217
A total of 11,93,908 voters of Cachar district would cast their vote in 1461 polling stations to decide the fate of Silchar Lok Sabha seat. The results of the election will be declared on 23 May, 2019.
