Pijush Hazarika reaches ground zero at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border at late night

July 27: As tension broke in the Assam Mizoram border on Monday, the situation soon took an ugly turn with Mizoram forces resorting to indiscriminate firing resulting in the death of 5 Assam Police personnel and injuring around 50 other policemen including SP Cachar NV Chandrakanth and OC Dholai Sahabuddin Laskar. Assam Chief Minister took up the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and deputed his cabinet colleague Pijush Hazarika to visit Silchar and take stock of the situation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will also come to Silchar on Tuesday morning.

On getting direction from the Chief Minister, Pijush Hazarika, Minister for Water Resources,Parliamentary Affairs, I&PR & Spokesperson, Government of Assam reached Silchar on Monday night and went directly at Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), where he met the injured and asked the doctors to offer their best service in treating the injured policemen.

Taking to his twitter handle, Minister Pijush Hazarika wrote, “On the directions of HCM @himantabiswa Sir, I reached SMCH to enquire about the status of the brave police personnel who were injured during the incident, to pray for the souls of the 5 brave Assam police jawans who were killed and to review the situation with the administration.”

Later during the night at 1 AM on 27 July, Pijush Hazarika went to ground zero at Lailapur near the Assam – Mizoram border where the brutal assault upon the Assam Police was carried out by the Mizo forces on Monday morning. Later on, during the night, while speaking with the journalists, Minister Hazarika said, “I came to Lailapur near the Assam-Mizoram border which was attacked by Mizo miscreants today and visited the area and understood the incident and inquired about the police personnel who are employed to secure Assam border and free from eviction.”

“The Assam government will quickly investigate this incident and take necessary strong steps to solve the border problem caused by illegal eviction. I reached Lailapur on the Assam-Mizoram border, which was attacked by Mizo miscreants today, and visited the area to take stock of the incident. In the interest of defending Assam’s border and making it encroachment free, I enquired about the police personnel deployed here. The Assam government will investigate this incident swiftly and take strong steps to solve the border problem arising out of illegal encroachments,” added the Minister.

Pijush Hazarika was accompanied at SMCH and Lailapur by Silchar MLA Silchar Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA Lakhipur Kaushik Rai, MLA Sonai Karim uddin Barbhuiya, former Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar, BJP District President Bimalendu Roy and other government officials.
