Our government will not allow NRC in West Bengal, says CM Mamata Banerjee

November 20: “I would like to make it very clear, that we will never allow the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise in Bengal,” said the West Bengal Chief Minister after Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared in the Rajya Sabha that there will soon be a National NRC.

Mamta Banerjee further said, “No one could take anyone’s citizenship away in Bengal. My government will not divide people on the basis of religious lines.” She mentioned that a section of the populace have come out trying to provoke trouble in the state by saying NRC would be carried out in Bengal.

Addressing a public meeting at Sagardighi of Murshidabad district in West Bengal, the Chief Minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee said that the people of West Bengal need not worry as her government will never allow NRC to happen in her state.
