Numaligarh Refinery kept out of scheme of disinvestment
November 21: After much protest throughout the state over disinvestment of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL), the Union Government on Thursday decided that it will not be privatised. Expressing his delight, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal wrote: “My heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji for once again keeping aspirations of Assam at the foremost.”
Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy while speaking to way2barak stated that “Indian Government has decided not to disinvest the Numaligarh Refinery. This decision was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Taking to twitter, Dr. Roy wrote, “Our thanx to @narendramodi ji and @nsitharaman ji for the decision of keeping #NRL out of #BPCL disinvestment. This will go a long way in reposing the faith of the people of Assam on #bjp4assam and @sarbanandsonwal ji ‘s govt. Thanx to assam finance minister @himantabiswa ji too.”

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the cabinet approved the strategic disinvestment of oil refiner and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), but NRL will be carved out before the stake sale and it will not be disinvested.
