২৪ নভেম্বরঃ পঞ্চায়েত নির্বাচনে আসন সংরক্ষণ নিয়ে কাছাড় জেলায় অদ্ভুত কাণ্ড। কাটিগড়ার দুটি ওয়ার্ডে একজনও তফশিলি জাতি ভুক্ত মানুষ নেই। কিন্তু সেগুলি হয়ে গেল তফশিলি জাতির জন্য সংরক্ষিত। ওয়ার্ড দুটি হল পাইকান-দিগরখাল জিপির ১ নং ওয়ার্ড এবং কাতিরাইল জিপির ২ নং ওয়ার্ড।

এর দরুন ওই দুই ওয়ার্ডের গ্রুপ মেম্বার পদে কোনও মনোনয়ন জমা পড়েনি। ভোটের দিন সবাই যখন নিজের ওয়ার্ডের প্রতিনিধি বাছাই করবেন, তখন তারা ত্রিস্তরীয় পঞ্চায়েতে অন্যদেরই শুধু ভোট দেবেন। জেলাশাসক এস লক্ষ্মণন জানিয়েছেন, এখন আর শোধরানোর সুযোগ নেই। ভোটের পরই সংরক্ষণ শুধরে নিয়ে উপনির্বাচন হবে। দ্রুত উপনির্বাচনেরই আশ্বাস দেন তিনি।

November 24: A peculiar matter regarding reservation of seats has come to light in Cachar district. There is not a single member of Scheduled Caste (SC) community in two if the wards of Katigorah, yet those two seats were declared as ‘SC Reserved.’ These two wards are-Ward No.1 of Paikhan-Digorkhal G.P. and Ward No.2 of Katirail G.P. As a result, no nomination was submitted for the post of Group members in these two wards.

When on the day of polling all will be busy in casting their votes in favour of their own ward representatives, the people of these two wards will have nothing to do but to wonder and ponder about the ‘judiciousness’ of those responsible for this ‘comedy of errors.’ Deputy Commissioner Dr. S. Laksmanan has said that it is high time now and cannot be rectified at this moment. After the election gets over, the faulty reservation policy will be rectified and by-polls will be held in these two wards. He assured of quick by-polls.
