NGO Paavan celebrates Christmas with orphans, conducts art competition
December 25: PAAVAN, a group of enterprising members though established a few months ago yet in terms of their social commitment is marching forward with giant strides. As they say, “We work for a cause and not for applause,” so in their functioning, the members of PAAVAN upholded their zeal for working for the deprived section of the populace.
The members of Paavan celebrated Christmas in a unique manner. Instead of decorating their own houses with stars and X-Mas trees, they preferred to spend time with the little orphans at Nibedita Nari Sangstha, Silchar. There at the orphanage, they conducted an art competition among the disadvantaged children.
The children too were very exited to participate in the art competition. Those tiny tots were all in smiles to get loved and cared by the members of Paavan. Arundhati Dutta Choudhury co-founder of PAAVAN said, “We are indeed blessed to be amidst these children. What we did is like a drop of water in an ocean, but perhaps this small step would bring atleast a day of happiness in the lives of those orphans.”
Later on prizes were also distributed among the participants of the art competition. Participants were given art items and school stationery like pen, pencil, copies etc. Fruits and sweets were also distributed among the children. The smile in their faces was an indication of joy which the children got in the company of Paavan. The children too presented cultural activities singing songs and rhymes.
Arundhati Dutta Choudhury said, “We have formed PAAVAN to do something beneficial for the marginalised sections of the society. I along with Anusakha Chakraborty founded this organisation. In fact, when we sat to finalise the name of our organisation, we were six members by that time. So we decided to keep a name out of the first six alphabets of our names. The six members are Priya, Arundhati, Anusakha, Vijoyeta, Anindita and Namrata.” Also present on behalf of Paavan were Anusakha Chakraborty, Dr. Sumita Bose and Pallavi Biswas among others.
