১৪ মার্চঃ সন্ধ্যারাতে ভেঙে পড়ল মুম্বই-এর ছত্রপতি শিবাজী টার্মিনাস রেলওয়ে স্টেশনের ফুট ব্রিজ। এ পর্যন্ত ৫ জন প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন। আহত অন্তত ৩৪। তাদের স্থানীয় সেন্ট জর্জ হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে। বেশ কয়েকজনের অবস্থা আশঙ্কাজনক। ফলে মৃতের সংখ্যা বাড়তে পারে ।

বৃহস্পতিবার দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটে রাত সাড়ে সাতটা নাগাদ । মুম্বই পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, ‘এক নম্বর প্লাটফর্মের উত্তর প্রান্তে ‘টাইমস অব ইন্ডিয়া’ ভবনের কাছের ফুট ব্রিজে এই দুর্ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে।’ ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছে মুম্বই পুলিশের বাহিনী এলাকার যান চলাচল নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে। ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছেছে মুম্বই মিউনিসিপ্যাল কর্পোরেশনে বিপর্যয় মোকাবিলা দফতরের কর্মীরাও।

March 14: At least five people were killed and 34 injured as a major portion of a foot over bridge near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station in Mumbai collapsed on Thursday evening.The injured people were taken to the St George’s Hospital and GT Hospital. Two women killed in the incident worked at the GT hospital.

The collapse happened around 7.30 pm when a major portion of the bridge caved in, officials said. Some motorists who were passing beneath the bridge when it came down, were among those injured. The five who died include two female nurses from Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, both of who were heading to work for the night shift. They were identified as Apoorva Prabhu (35) and Ranjana Tambe (40). The others were identified as Zahid Shiraj Khan (32), Bhakti Shinde (40) and Tapendra Singh (35).

A 45-member team from the National Disaster Response Force and the Mumbai Fire Brigade were also sent. Rescue operations went on for over an hour as many were trapped under the debris, officials said.Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, announced a probe and said the guilty will be punished. He said that the bridge was audited last year and was found to be structurally sound. He has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

The bridge collapse, on the busy Dadabhai Naoroji Road, was the third in less than 18 months in the maximum city. On July 3, 2018, a pedestrian pathway of Gokhale Bridge over Andheri railway station in suburban Mumbai had collapsed, killing two and injuring five others. Nine months before that, in 2017, 23 people were killed in a stampede when the Elphinstone Bridge had collapsed.
