MP Kripanath Mallah raises the issue of dilapidated road of NH 44 in Lok Sabha
July 4: It was the maiden speech of Kripanath Mallah, newly-elected BJP Member of Parliament from Karimganj constituency in the floor of Lok Sabha. However, he raised a very pertinent issue regarding the dilapidated road of NH 44, which has been renamed as NH8. This road passes through Guwahati to Tripura via Karimganj.
Kripanath Mallah raised this question during the ‘Matter of Urgent Importance’ in the Lok Sabha. The portion of NH8 in Karimganj is lying in a worst condition. He said that two years ago, a company was given the work of constructing this particular road. But as the company failed to make any significant progress in the work, so the contract was ultimately cancelled.
The MP further highlighted the plight of the commuters who travels from Karimganj to Tripura. All commodities to Tripura from Assam goes through that road. Mallah mentioned that during rainy season, this road remains closed for days together. He said, “In this backdrop, I request the concerned Minister to take immediate steps so that the road is made at the earliest.”
He also highlighted about two more roads in his constituency about which declaration of construction was made by the government- one which goes to Mizoram from Badarpur and the other was NH44 from Silchar and Hailakandi. He said, “It’s almost 2 and a half years, but till now the DPR has not been made of these two roads. He therefore also requested the concerned minister to see that the DPR of these two roads are made at the earliest so that construction of these roads could be started.
