Mobile medical van launched at Cachar to examine health of truck drivers

একাংশ ট্রাকচালকের মধ্য দিয়েই এইডসের জীবাণু ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে কাছাড় জেলায়। বিভিন্ন সমীক্ষায় তা সামনে এসেছে। তাই ট্রাকচালকদের নিয়মিত স্বাস্থ্যপরীক্ষায় মোবাইল মেডিক্যাল ভ্যান চালু হল এখানে। আজই এর যাত্রা শুরু হয়। আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে এর উদ্বোধন করেন অতিরিক্ত জেলাশাসক রাজীব রায়।

ডাক্তার, নার্স, ফার্মাসিস্ট দিয়ে ভ্যানটি চালাবে আসলে পিরামল স্বাস্থ্য ম্যানেজমেন্ট অ্যান্ড রিসার্চ ইনস্টিটিউট। এর বরাক উপত্যকা জোনাল ম্যানেজার অভিজিত ভট্টাচার্য জানিয়েছেন, তাঁদের এক সমীক্ষায় দেখা গিয়েছে, ট্রাকচালকদের ৫৪ শতাংশই নানা ধরনের শারীরিক সমস্যায় ভোগেন। এর মধ্যে কিডনি, হার্ট, চোখ ও স্নায়ুর রোগই বেশি। থাকে হাইপার টেনশন, ডায়াবেটিসের মতো সমস্যা। কিন্তু পেশাগত ব্যস্ততা, আর্থিক সঙ্কট প্রভৃতি কারণে তাঁরা সময়মত চিকিতসা করাতে পারেন না। তাই পিরামল এই কাজে এগিয়ে এসেছে। সহযোগিতায় রয়েছে শ্রীরাম ট্রান্সপোর্ট ফাইনান্স কোম্পানি। কাছাড়ে তাঁরা মোট ১১টি জায়গাকে চিহ্নিত করেছেন, যেখানে ট্রাকচালকরা বেশি পরিমাণে থাকেন। সেখানেই মোবাইল মেডিক্যাল ছুটে যাবে। স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা করবে, বিনামূল্যে ওষুধ দেবে।

জাতীয় স্বাস্থ্য মিশনের মিডিয়া এক্সপার্ট সুমন চৌধুরী জানান, এইডস রোগীদের সংখ্যায় কাছাড় অসমে দ্বিতীয়। কামরূপ মেট্রোর পরই এই জেলার স্থান। অভিজিতবাবু বলেন, মোবাইল মেডিক্যাল ভ্যানের চিকিতসা এই ব্যাপারেও সাহায্য করবে। কারও এইডস ধরা পড়লে তাঁরা প্রয়োজনীয় পরামর্শ দেবেন। ১১টি জায়গা বেছে নেওয়ায় প্রতিটি জায়গায় এই ভ্যান মাসে দুইবার যাবে।

Till before some 50years, nobody had the slightest clue of what AIDS was. But suddenly it started spreading like wild fire. Truck drivers are known to be one of the most potent carriers of the HIV virus due to numerous reasons. A survey in 2016 proved that 40% truck drivers were susceptible of having AIDS. Even at Cachar, AIDS has made its entry through a section of the truck drivers. It is in this backdrop that mobile medical van has been launched for regular health check up of the truck drivers. This service was formally launched at Silchar by Rajib Roy, Additional District Commissioner of Cachar

This mobile medical van will be operated by Piramal Health Management and Research Institute. All kind of testing facilities along with doctors, nurses and pharmacists will be available inside the van. Abhijit Bhattacharjee, Zonal Manager of the Research Institute said that in a study it has been found that 54 percent of the truck drivers suffer from various diseases, out of which the most common diseases are related to kidney, heart, pressure, diabetes, hyper tension and eyes. But due to professional pressure and financial constraints, they fail to go for timely check up. It is for this reason that Piramal Health Management and Research Institute in collaboration with Sriram Transport Finance Company have come forward to offer medical facilities to these truck drivers. They have identified 11 spots at Cachar where this mobile van will be available. They will not be charging any fees for the treatment or diagnosis from the truck drivers. Even medicines will be given to them free of cost.

Suman Choudhury, Media Expert of National Health Mission said that in Assam Cachar ranks second in terms of AIDS patients. The maximum number of AIDS patients in Assam is from Kamrup Metro. He said that the mobile medical van will definitely help in identifying the diseases from which the truck drivers are suffering. If any driver is detected with AIDS, they will provide free medical counseling. The mobile medical van will be available twice a week in all the 11 spots identified by them.
