Mizoram Home Secy in a WT message asks his Assam counterpart to enable entry of stranded vehicles

Aug. 3: Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal on 30 July, 2021 while interacting with the media at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border made it clear that the state government has not imposed any kind of economic blockade. However, many vehicles were infact stranded in the National Highway as the drivers seemed to be worried about their safety and security. It is in this context that Home Secretary, Mizoram wrote to his counterpart in Assam to make arrangements for stranded vehicles to enter Mizoram, while giving assurance to safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles within Mizoram.

On 2 August, Vanlalngaihsaka, Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Home Department, sent a WT Message to the Commissioner & Secretary Home, Government of Assam. In the said WT message, the Home Secretary of Mizoram wrote, “Vehicles bound for Mizoram which have been stranded on NH-306 at Lailapur since 27.7.2021 want to enter Mizoram without delay. In this regard, kindly make all necessary arrangements immediately for enabling their entry into Mizoram without any law and order problem in Assam. The Government of Mizoram gives its assurance for the safety and security of all drivers, passengers and their vehicles within Mizoram.”

Meanwhile, 3711 kgs of Cargo was airlifted by SpiceJet from Kolkata to Lengpui Airport in Mizoram via Silchar.

“No economic blockade has been announced by the Assam Government as yet. If any such decision is taken, then our government will inform it,” said Guardian Minister Ashok Singhal while interacting with the media at Lailapur in Assam- Mizoram border on 30 July. He, however, stated, “If public calls for a blockade, then what can we do. Six persons have died and so naturally, there is anger among the people. If the public calls for a blockade, we can’t actually do anything.”

Infact, the atrocities perpetrated upon Assam Police by Mizo forces along with the Mizo armed miscreants on 26 July, which led to death of six policemen and several injured was severely resented by the people of three districts of Barak Valley. Protest movements were organised at several parts of the valley.
