MIL to replace Alternative English in Higher Secondary

February 11: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) in a meeting held in the Council office decided to replace Alternative English from the list of compulsory language papers for classes XI and XII.

The meeting attended by a number of educationists and organisations unanimously decided to prescribe Modern Indian language (MIL) at HS Level in order to popularise the mother tongue. However, General English will continue to remain a compulsory paper for all students at HS First and Second Year.

The AHSEC has listed MILs which can be choose by the students- Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, Bodo, Hmar, Garo, Khasi, Manipuri, Urdu and Nepali instead of Alternative English.
