Mid-day Meal: CM Sonowal orders probe

November 9: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday has ordered a probe into the alleged irregularities in the supply of mid-day meals to the students in different parts of the state by some NGOs. Amidst protest throughout the state, the intervention of the CM comes as a sign of relief.

The state Chief Minister has directed Biswaranjan Samal, Principal Secretary, Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, Assam to conduct the probe and submit the report in next 30 days.

Protests mounted in different areas as there were reports of these NGOs and private kitchens serving poor quality and stale food in the midday meal to some of the schools. Reports have also surfaced that thousands of students across the state have refused to eat the midday meal served to them by NGOs. Recently, 41 children fell ill after allegedly having mid-deal prepared by a blacklisted NGO at Baruahola High School in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
