Meeting held to condole the demise of octopad player Munna Sinha
Aug 6: A condolence meeting was held on Friday in the memory of the Octopad artist Munna Sinha who breathed his last on 2 August, 2021. A soft spoken gentleman, Munna Sinha was one of the founders of the renowned musical group Rising Orchestra in the 80’s. During the condolence meeting which was held at Sandhya Rhythms Music School, Premtola, artists from a various fields offered floral tribute in the portrait of the recently deceased Munna Sinha.
Those present in the condolence meeting highlighted the various aspects of the life of Munna Sinha. Speaking during the occasion, renowned folk artist Bidhan Laskar said, “The gentle nature and dedication towards music was the most notable aspect of the character of Munna Singh. Artists of the valley who play musical instruments over here have not got their due recognition.” Sujit Kumar Das also lamented the death of Munna Singh. Discussion was also held to devise ways and means to support financially the family of Munna Sinha.
Others who paid their homage to Munna Sinha are Dilip Sinha, Parimal Purkayastha, Ajoy Roy, Manjushree Das, Himu Laskar, Bikramjit Baulia, Sujit Kr Das, Gautam Gupta, Ajay Barman, Shankar Seal, Manik Dutta, Nirupam Barbhuiya, Abhijit Dey, Parimal Das, Anup Acharjee, Raju Sengupta among others.
A soft spoken gentleman, Munna Sinha was very popular among the musicians. He was suffering from heart and kidney related ailments. Informing about this, another renowned musician, Dilip Sinha said, “Since last 2 years, Munna Sinha was suffering due to low hemoglobin. It was then that 3 units of blood was given to him. He also went for treatment in the past at NEIGRIHMS Shillong. On Saturday, he complained of severe breathlessness. He was then admitted at SMCH. However, as his condition did not improve, so on 2 August, preparation was made to shift him to Guwahati for better treatment. But unfortunately, he passed away that very morning.”
Munna Sinha, a resident of Malugram is survived by his wife, a son, brother and a host of other kith and kin.
